Elizabethan Garden Tour

Free garden tours are offered at 10am and 11am on the first and third Saturday of each month, April through October.

Explore Folger Shakespeare Library's Elizabethan Garden, inspired by herbal references in Shakespeare's plays and also incorporating plants popular in his time, including lavender, creeping thyme, and English ivy; a knot garden; and Shakespearean statues by American sculptor Greg Wyatt. Folger docents offer insights into plantings, Elizabethan customs, and more.

Maryland Renaissance Festival

The Maryland Renaissance Festival is the second largest Renaissance Festival in the country with more than 1,300 participants and 280,000 guests per season. Canoe Slalom World Championships

National Heritage Fellowships Concert

Edinburg Ole Time Festival

Dulles Day Family Festival & Plane Pull

Waterford Homes Tour & Crafts Exhibit

Chesapeake Celtic Festival

International Gold Cup

A Colonial Christmas

Holiday traditions of 17th- and 18th-century Virginia are recalled through special interpretive programs and, from December 26 through 31, musical entertainment of the period. A Jamestown Settlement holiday film and guided tours compare and contrast English Christmas customs of the period with how the season may have been observed in the difficult early years of the Jamestown colony. At the Yorktown Victory Center, hear accounts of Christmas and winter in Revolutionary War encampments and glimpse holiday preparations on a 1780s farm.

Antietam Memorial Illumination

In honor of those soldiers who fell during the Battle of Antietam, 23,000 candles are lit, one for each soldier killed, wounded or missing.  Beginning at 6pm, visitors are invited to drive the 5-mile tour of the illuminated battlefield.

Holiday Boat Parade of Lights

Experience one of the region's most beloved holiday traditions! Dozens of brightly lit boats will stretch along the Potomac River during this colorful parade at Alexandria's historic harbor. Christmas in Middleburg
